Alliance Invitational

Posted Saturday, September 18, 2010 by Mike Hout
It was a warm day and the course was not as fast as rumored earlier in the week.  Still, the Miamisburg harriers had a good meet at the tough Alliance Invitational.  The meet is significant because this is course we will be using for the districts.  Here is the link to the meet results:  http://oh.milesplit.com/meets/75499

The boys team had a good finish behind several state ranked teams.  Austin Cassidy had the biggest pr drop of the day.  Jonathan Steingass also had a pr along with Matt Coggeshall, Billy Scheid and Colin Scully.  It was terrific to see our name ahead of St. Xavier, the #7 team in the state.  Just to make sure we didn't beat their JV squad we went to their website and found out that a slower group competed at the Catholic Championships in Cincinnati.  One more check of the final results showed that none of the runners who finished high at Tiffin ran at Alliance.  It appears that their second seven ran at Alliance, another group of seven ran in Cincinnati and their top seven rested.

The girls and the JV had to run in warmer and warmer temperatures.  Their times reflected the less than optimal conditions.  Still, one had to be impressed with the high finish of Jordan Townsley and Jenna Parlette.  Stephanie Mee looked very comfortable and ran well.  Brittany Sumner and Stephanie Jensen look to be over the lingering effects of illnesses and are ready to roll.  It is hard to see two GWOC south foes with such deep teams but the 'Burg likes a good challenge and that is exactly what they will have from Springboro (#2 in the state) and Lebanon (#6 in the state).

Next up for our speedy group is the Troy Invitational.  This is the course where the regionals are held so this meet experience is very important for us.
