state meet results - Beavercreek girls second!

Posted Sunday, November 06, 2011 by Mike Hout
The headlines from the November 6th Dayton Daily News states "BEAVERCREEK BRINGS HOME RUNNER-UP TROPHY."  We were surprised to see Beavercreek get second in the regionals last week.  This week they topped that by tieing Mason (the regional champs) and beating them with their sixth runner Maxine Simpson.  She finished five spots and 4.47 seconds ahead of Mason's number six.  The head coach Howard Russ had a good quote.  "I love that it came down to our sixth runner because every time I coach now I can say the reason we got a trophy at state is because of our sixth runner."

Sydney Leiher finished third overall (18:10.21) for the Beavers.  She said "We already have big goals for next year to go undefeated and win state."

Springboro was 4th and Centerville 12th.  Lebanon placed a pair of runners in the top 10 with soph Jacquelyn Crow (8th) and senior Hayley Stegemiller (10th).

Alter finished third thanks to the efforts of last weeks wobble, fall, crawl hero Grace Unterer.  This week there was no drama to her finish and she closed out her team's scoring as the fifth runner.  The Knights were just one point out of second and 12 out of first.

Tippecanoe junior Sam Wharton impressed with his second place finish in the Division I race.  Jesse Moreno went out hard and fell off toward the finish to place 25th.  Jordan Redd from Fairborn was 17th and Centerville's junior Josh Steible 41st as the Elks came in 15th as a team.  Springfield Shawnee won the Division II crown.  Oakwood was 11th and led by senior Jack Randall in 51st.  My Chipotle eating friends from Mariemont finished third in Division III!!!
